Andrea Gerring to Present Art Lectures at JRAC

Andrea Gerring, long time JRAC member  will present a series of power point lectures in February at the Jordan River Art Center, 301  Main St., East Jordan. She has a masters in Art History, with the major field of study being China, India and Japan from Wayne State University. She has been a decorative painter for the past 25 years and is currently an adjunct professor at North Central Michigan College, teaching Art History from Prehistory to the Present—in the West and the East. Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. - The  Art of the World's Great Religions
An introduction to the work of the artists who illustrated the words of the prophets and conveyed the message of the  Judeo-Christian, Buddhist and Muslim Faiths. An exploration of Churches, Temples, Synagogues and  Mosques through the artwork that adorns them.

Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. - The Art of China Yesterday and Today
Have the Olympics helped us to better understand the Chinese culture? A short survey of the Chinese art from the earliest grave goods to the 21st pyrotechnic achievements of the opening celebrations will give us  a closer look and better idea.

The Art of the Americas is a story of incredible pre-colonization civilizations. They were all destroyed by European conquerors.  Let’s uncover  their past glory and find out what remains to be discovered and explored.
