Flora and Fauna: The Beauty Around Us

The giant “Monarch Butterfly” was placed at the Jordan River Art Center in time for the opening of the exhibit, Flora and Fauna: The Beauty Around Us. The butterfly was created by Tom Moran and is one of the traveling sculptures of Art in Public Places sponsored by Crooked Tree Art Center. Traffic was stopped with many observers watching the transaction.

Artists, patrons and guests attending the opening reception not only enjoyed the out door sculpture but also enjoyed the beautiful renderings which extended into the lower gallery. The exhibit consists of over 100 works of art in oils, watercolors, pastels, prints, photos, fibers, ceramics, and bronzes.

Featured in the exhibit are works by the Great Lakes Pastel Society (GLPS) created during the Antrim Co. Paint Out hosted by JRAC member, Sherry Kay Marshall. GLPS artists in the exhibit are: Vicki Bever, Sarabeth Carr, Carl Forslund, Kathleen Kalinowski, Sue Lockwood, Bette Prudden, Irene Wordhouse, and Marshall.

Also featured are color photos from the Friends of the Jordan River Watershed which were in recent exhibition for their 2007 fund raising calendar and black and white photos by East Jordan High School students taught by Darrin Podskalny.

Other artists participating are: Raechel Alberts, Prudy Barber, Cathy Cohen, Dick Cunningham, Jane Diller, Howard Ellis, Lynn Fisher, Amy Folker, Meredith Krell, Sherry K. Marshall, Glen McCune, Penny Pepin, Carol Ross, Yvonne Schmidt, Bonnie Staffel, John Stevens, June Storm, Sylvia Walworth, and Babs Young. Many of the works are for sale.
