All Student Production at East Jordan High School
Students at East Jordan High School have had the opportunity to wholly produce, direct and perform a one act play, Paper or Plastic, by Werner Trieschmann. The show is directed by junior Kaitlin Keane. She states” I have learned so much, not only about acting in general and the ability to dissect a character, but also learned a lot by interacting with and teaching others. The show has vastly improved my communication skills and even my overall thinking in regards to characters and method acting.”
Paper or Plastic is a comedy about a teen’s first job at a grocery store. Sarah thinks the job would be a good experience. It is not as she expects. The customers are crazy and mean; coworkers are not supportive or too busy doing something else to help, but most importantly, no one will answer her one question, paper or plastic?
The Lead character, Kalie Tyree says, “I have learned a lot about how to create my own character and have in addition used experiences from my own life.” Eighteen students from ninth to twelfth have also related they have learned much in overall acting skills and how to create a character. The warm-ups are especially helpful.
Paper or Plastic is relatively new one act (45 minutes) with only 22 other schools having produced this play. It is produced with permission by the Dramatic Publishing Co. Drama teacher Pat Tinney states, “This play is all student work. I only lock and unlock doors. The students deserve all the credit.” The solo East Jordan performance will be Friday, January 16, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the East Jordan High School Community Auditorium, East Jordan. It is friendly for all ages and is free!
