        February 18, 2017 

        Screening of the Film - The True Cost 

          jrac will screen the film, The True Cost at the Jordan River Art Center on February 18. There will be a soup supper downstairs begining at 6:00. The film will follow about 6:30 and that will be followed by a panel discussion. The panel will include Suzy Barnes of Hoof-to-Hanger Fiber Mill, Brad Kid of Crosshatch Center for Art and Ecology, Shanna Robinson of the Art Department at North Central Michigan College and Deb McDermott of Stonehenge Fiber Mill. Please come join us for this important film about the textile industry.

 

            February 26 - March 17

            Student selfie Show. Students from East Jordan and Boyne City will exhibit self portraits. Curated by Katie McLeod. Show opens February 26 from 1:00 to 4:00 and is open each day Tuesday to Sunday 1:00 to 4:00.

 

            March 4  

            Introduction to Macro Photography 10:00 - 4:00pm

            Presented by Kim Ritsema

           $50.00 for Members and $60.00 for Non-members

The workshop would be intended for anyone, from hobbyist to amateur, looking to further their skill set when photographing detail within nature. We will cover composition and lighting, as well as basic camera function and equipment needs for shooting better macro photography. The class will include an hour of lecture, and hour of shooting and a casual discussion/question & answer session after.

What to bring:
Your camera! SLR or point-and-shoot cameras are OK!
All available lenses
A trip-pod, if you have one available
Notebook & pen/pencil
Sack lunch for discussion/question & answer at the end of class

        March 11  

        Paper Fabric Workshop  1:00 to 3:00 pm

          $30.00 for Memebers - $35.00 for Non-members

        Meredith Krell and Amy Donaldson

Using the collage process, we will be making the base for paper fabric. "Follow-up" techniques will demonstrated that may may be done after the paper fabric, which we will create in class, has a chance to dry.

Supply List

8 oz. of Elmer's White Glue

Pastic container with lid that will hold at least 16oz. (Cottage cheese container is good)

2" wide chip brush (inexpensive natural bristle-available at hardware stores)

1" or 2" wide foam brush

12" x 18" cloth (mid-weight light colored twill/duck/muslin or any size that will fit on freezer paper. IF you work quickly you may want more than one piece of cloth. Repurposed cloth (tablecloth, curtain or sheet) works well

Newsprint, comics, old maps and other collage items

Scissors

Will will provide: Freezer paper and tissue paper (a variety of colors and patterns)

Lynn Carson and Chuck Hersperger wil co-curate a show featuring doors and windows. Opening reception is April 2 from 1:00 to 4:00. Show is open each day Tuesday to Sunday 1:00 to 4:00
