Black and White and Red All Over
BLACK AND WHITE AND “RED” ALL OVER
Project and Exhibit by Youth of Charlevoix and Antrim Counties
The Jordan River Arts Council has offered another youth oriented project: Black, White and “Red” (Read) All Over emphasizing the importance of expression through reading, writing, and art. The object of the project is to relate the art experience to reading and writing; hence further creative thinking and enriching each individual. The only criteria was that newspaper be used in all projects as well as the colors black, white, and red. News can be obtained on line and the computer images can be included. Students were encouraged to read a newspaper, or some article from a magazine and write about it; or write an essay, verse, prose that might relate to the subject of study or something of their own selection.
The final projects for exhibition were varied in subject matter and media which teachers and students selected. Sports, Olympics, Asian Carp, poetry, and self portraits were notable subject matter. The media included mobiles, 3-D sculptures in wood and paper mache, clay masks, paintings, drawings, prints, collages, writings and weavings. Every student participating has their work exhibited and all will be juried. The awards will be presented during the opening, Sunday, February 14 at 2:00 pm.
