The Motorcycles roared into East Jordan August 17th with not only the Lady Bikers, but also the Motorcycle Art Exhibition at the Jordan River Art Center. The day was filled with many activities for hundreds of bikers and art patrons.
At the Center was the tattoo demonstration by Dan Hanselman, live jazz music by Roger Lilak and friends, wonderful refreshments provided by the JRAC Board, door prizes were provided for the lady bikers attending the exhibit, and most important the fine exhibit of art work and custom and vintage bikes.
Artists present at some time during the weekend were Penny and Mark Postma, Doug Melvin, Edward Fralick, Peggy Midener, Marry Ann Archer, Patrick Bell, Mike Lucas, Gina Marszalec, Steve Toornman, and John Stevens.
Also attending was the celebrated Dozer of Dozer Cycles, Auburn Hills, Michigan, who created the Skeleton Bike, “Last Ride.” The bike is truly a work of artmade from hand hammered and fabricated steel. It was painted by Mickey Harris and Tom Watts. There is a DVD and booklet which demonstrates how the skeleton was constructed. Dozer states, “The story of the 'Last Ride' is not about death, but refusing to relinquish life." The concept was initially conceived in 1967 by Jerry Dixon, a teacher, as a way to get his students interested in biology and art. Dozer not only explained about the bike, but also signed posters which he presented to patrons. The colored poster will be given to any patron attending the exhibition.
The “Last Ride” has been touring nationally, and has just returned from Sturgis, South Dakota were it was first place in the peoples choice. More of Dozer’s Creations can be viewed by Dozercycle.com
The exhibition continues through September 20 and will be open daily from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. through September 20th. Other times for groups can be arranged by contacting John Stevens, 231-582-6399. The Jordan River Art Center is located at 301 Main Street, East Jordan.
