The Alma College 26th Annual Statewide Print Competition and Photographs by East Jordan High School Students, instructor, Darrin Podskalny, opened Sunday, April 15. Featured at the reception were food and drink made by the Board of Directors from the recently published cookbook, Flavors and Visions.

Eighty five photos by 35 EJHS students fill the lower gallery. Patrons were impressed with the quality of the work created by these students. Four levels of photography cllasses are offered at EJHS including digital enhancement are taught by Darrin Podskalny. Students are given weekly assignments with much of the subject matter being outdoor studies. The students and “Pod” can often be seen shooting around East Jordan throughout the year. They develop and print their own film.

The Alma print show selected by Juror, Phillia Changhi Yi, professor and printmaker from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, New York selected Michigan 33 artists creating a show of 42 diverse and exciting prints in all traditional printing techniques with a few unusal methods included. The show was hung by Steve Toornman and and Meredith Krell.

The exhibit runs through May 4 and is open daily 1-4 pm. Other times can be arranged by calling the Center 231-536-3385.
