JRAC is exhibiting the Alma College 26th Annual Statewide Print Competition. Guest Juror, Phillia Changhi Yi, professor and printmaker from Hobart and William Smith Colleges,New York selected 33 artist from 29 locations throughout the state, creating a show of 42 diverse and exciting prints in every printing technique. She selected a show that would represent the highest standards of the art of printmaking and, at the same time recognized new print artists and aesthetics. Of special interest to here were prints that depicted aspects of the life cycles in naturea chief concern in her own work.
Best of Show went to Kathleen Van DeMark of Rodney, for “Portrait of Larry with Eggs” woodcut, waxed. A purchase award went to Ladislav Hanka of Kalamazoo, for “Garden of Eden” etching. Hanka had a one man show at the Crooked Tree Art Center last year and has exhibited at JRAC. Dorothy Anderson Grow of Traverse City was also an award winner for her halftone etching, monotype, collage, “Broken Nails.”
Also on exhibition will be Photographs by East Jordan High School Students, instructor, Darrin Podskalny. The students and “Pod” can be seen shooting around East Jordan throughout the year. They develop and print their own film and are are creating their own show.
The exhibit will open April 15 with a reception by the JRAC Board of directors. The Center is open daily 1-4 pm. and the exhibit runs through May 4.
