The exhibit, Mirror Images, now showing at the Jodran River Art Center is more than just images on the wall. As one patron commented, “You artists have put your souls on display.” Another said, “This is a very important exhibit.” Over 60 artist accepted the challenge of creating a “mirror image” of themselves in their own media, with many being accompanied with a photo and essay.
The invitation was extended to artist-teachers known by curator, Jane Diller. The teacher-student relationships are apparent. Diller taught Steve Smith, now Professor of Art, Defiance University, Ohio and Sharon Wittler, High school Art Teacher, Wapakoneta, Ohio. Jackie Trimble ,a college professor taught Liz Kantzer and Liz now teaches oil workshops. Pat Tinney taught Destiny Bowman, Andrea Postma, and Cayla Tinney, all who are now in college. Melissa Baker now teaches at Boyne Falls High school with three of her students representedBeca Featherly, Ken McPherson, and Terra Wasylewski.
Other artists exhibiting are: Raechel Alberts, Mary Ann Archer, Betty Beeby, Kathleen Boyer, Nancy Carey, Dick Cunningham, Howard Ellis, Barbara Hanahan, Judith Hitz, James Horton, Meredith Krell, Elaine Levine, Lauren Levanovich, Sherry Kay Marshall, Glen McCune, Peggy Midener, Molly Jo Noland, Andrea Postma, James Quinlan, Shanna Robinson, Juli Runberg, Cynthia Rutherford, Yvonne Schmidt, Audrey Shapiro, Kelly Snively, John Stevens,June Storm, Diane Strzelinski, Steve Toornman, Cynthia Tschudy, Sara Vrondran, Karen Walker, Sylvia Walworth, The Art Place Suttons Bay, and Ellsworth Elementary School, K6.
The art work is also imaged with mirrors on loan from C2 Gallery, Charlevoix and art patrons. Also,especially for the students, is a kaleidoscope, periscopes, a mirrored sphere, and a levitator. Hands on experiences were produced by over 300 students who have attended the exhibit.
The exhibit will be open through April 6, daily from 1 - 4 pm at the Center, 301 Main St. For information call 231-582-6399.
