The Jordan River Arts Council is honored to present Hannah Stoppel, well known talented teenage vocalist, in concert Sunday, March 18 at the Jordan River Art Center, 301 Main St., East Jordan. Hannah is currently a junior classical voice major at Interlochen receiving a partial scholarship where she auditioned and was accepted into their exclusive Chamber Singers. She is the daughter of Joel and Julie Stoppel of Petoskey.
She showed early vocal talent when at age two would serenade the customers in nice restaurants with Mary Had a Little Lamb. All through school she has performed, often writing her own music and creating her own band. She has performed in at least eleven musicals, including the part of Mary in Secret Garden at Bay View. At 13 she played in her own celtic band at Blissfest with Gabe van Loozen called “Into the Mist,” and has performed at Blissfest several times since as well as in other festivals and for churches and charities. Hannah was a part of the Petoskey High School award winning Bela Voce Choir and received the highest ratings for individual musical performance at both the district and state levels. June Zoerhoff was her voice instructor for five years.
Hannah performed her first headline concert last summer to a sell out crowd at the Crooked Tree Art Center. This was a fund raiser to help defray expenses to study at Interlochen. JRAC present Hannah in concert so she can continue in her musical career. This concert is the first of several live performance to showcase and nurture local talent for the East Jordan community. This concert series is partially funded by the Charlevoix County Community Foundation.
The program will consist of some Celtic music such as Garten Mother’s Lullaby, Traditional, County Donegal, Ireland, some well loved pieces as Into the Night by Clara Edwards, and classical numbers, many from the italian opera. Peter Sims of Petoskey will serve as accompanist. Sims is a retired vocal teacher from University of Indianapolis and has been associated with the Indianapolis Opera since 1978 performing many roles. He has been associated with Bay View for many years and is currently director of the Northern Michigan Corale and Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs. At Christmas time he was guest bass soloist in the Messiah at St. Francis Church in Petoskey.
The concert will begin at 2:30 pm. The public is invited. Admission is by donation only. Following the performance there will be a reception for the artists with refreshments being served by the Board of Directors. For more information call 231-582-6399.
