JRAC Elects Board for 2006-07

The Jordan River Arts Council held the Annual Meeting, Sunday September 17 with a Potluck Dinner in GAR Park. Mark Robinson, Landscape Architect, Mark Robinson was elected President and Babs Young, artist and educator, was elected President elect. New to the Board are Jackie Trimble of Alden, Darrin Podskalny, East Jordan, and Sara Robinson, East Jordan.

Trimble is a mixed media artist who exhibits at Gallery 50 in Traverse City and has taught at Michigan State University. It can be noted that she was a teacher of Board member Elizabeth Kanzter. Podskalny is an art teacher in East Jordan middle and high school with an emphasis in photography. Sara is the daughter of Mark and Linda Robinson and will serve as the student representative.

Others serving on the Board are: Past President, Sylvia Walworth; Vice President, Membership, Howard Ellis; Treasurer, Pat Poineau; Secretary, Nancy Carey; Jill Anderson; Prudence Barber; Carl Bloom; Jane Diller, Liz Kantzer; Peggy Midener; John Stevens, and Sara Vrondran.

Approximately 100 artists and patrons attended the afternoon event , beside the potluck and annual meeting, was the opening of the Barn and Folk Art Exhibit: A Rural Thing, and the reading and visual presentation by Evelyn Johnson from her book, Barns and Their Stories of Old Mission Peninsula

Artists Nancy Carey, Jane Diller, Prudy Barber, John Stevens, Pat Tinney, Phyllis Childs, Lynn Carson, Sherry Kay Marshall, Norma J.Fell, Amy Folker, Mary Polchlopek, Clyde Foles, Raechel Alberts, Yvonne Schmidt, Suzanne Dalton, Nancy Burnside, Glenn McCune, Karen Walker, Carol Ross, Liz Kantzer, Penny Pepin, Steve Toornman, June Storm, Larry Jesick, and Linda Eachus Pellston exhibited works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastel, and pencil. Also on exhibition were the three dimensional Barns by the Wagbo “Kids” from the summer farm and art experience and a rich array of folk art objects collected from the area by Dick Cunningham and Peggy Midener. The exhibit filled both the upper and lower galleries.

The exhibit will be open daily from 1-4 pm through October 20. For special tours and other information call the Art Center 231-536-3385.
