Now showing at the Jordan River Art Center is an outstanding Print Show by area printmakers and other selected artists. Fifty original prints comprise this outstanding show. Several art works are noteworthy.

As one enters the gallery you are immediately aware of the four large woodcuts by Eric Skoglund of Minnesota. The largest, four feet by six feet, “The Palace” shows an entrance in perspective. The print is hand rubbed. The different intensity of rub marks created by the printing spoon increases the emotional quality of the imagery. These were created in reference to the political overthrown of Chilean Salvador Allende in 1973 and exhibited in 2005 at the Zeitgeist Gallery, Detroit.

Another print of notice is the lithograph by Rudy Pozzatti, Professor at University of Indiana, “Classical Ruins III,” in two colors. Pozzatti’s, of internationally fame, works can be found in many collections both public and private. He often serves a guest professor and juror (including the Alma Print Show), and has many publications to his credit. He is credited for being the first to produce lithographs on metal rather than stone.

Most special is the hand made art book project, “Minisens.” produced by the curators of the show. Judith Hitz wrote the poetry; etchings are by Steve Toornman, linocuts are by Meredith Krell, and engravings and book design are by Chad Pastotnik. This beautiful book, limited edition of 30, printed and bound, by Deep Wood Press,was recently added to the Franklin Furnace Book Arts Collection at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. A copy is also included in the University of Michigan Book Collection.

In addition to works by the curators are works by notable artist such as James Horton, Glenn McCune, Elizabeth Kantzer, Lad Hanka, Chad Andrews, Pat Victor, Thomas Diller, and Meg Perec. All procedures and methods of printmaking are represented. Many of the works are for sale. The exhibit runs until May 5 and is open daily from 1-4 pm, 301 Main St. East Jordan.

Print workshops are being held in relations to the exhibit with a few openings yet available. They are: A Monotype Workshop, Saturday, April 22, Instructors - Meredith Krell and Steve Toornman at JRAC; and a Lithograph / Collagraph Workshop, Saturday April 29, Chad Pastotnik, at Deep Wood Press.
