Sunday afternoon was “jammed packed at the Jordan River Art Center, 301 Main St., East Jordan, not only with over 300 art projects, but also students, parents, teachers, artists, and art patrons observing the objects that were made of throw-away items. Awards were made possible by Charlevoix Community Foundation recommened by the Youth Advisory committee.
Juror, Carol Ross, Chair Education Committee, Crooked Tree Art Center stated, “The world needs, more art, but needs less garb age. So in the Robo Project of the Jordan River Arts Council the two world of art and trash have met face to face to create Beauty and Truth. To give object new life is a worthy task for future citizens of the world. The young creative minds of the students have challenged themselves to find a new purpose for many of our throwaways.”
Juror Elisa Seltzer, Emmett County Director of Public Works stated, “When I walked into the gallery I was taken by all the color and energy exhibited in the room. What a joyous riot of sculpture and installations! As individual pieces drew me in, I was impressed with the creative use of throw-away -- all fashioned into objects of interest and value. As a professional recycler I appreciate ways in which “throw-away items can be given new life and challenge the viewer to look at them in new ways. There were more award-winning pieces than we had awards to give out! Everyone who participated deserves an award.”
