2005 Annual Scholarship Exhibit Awards Presented

The Annual Scholarship Exhibit sponsored by the Jordan River Arts Council opened Sunday May 15 with awards presented at 2:00 pm. by Sara Vrondran. Two awards plus honorable mentions were awarded.

The Betty Ann Osborne scholarship of $1,000.00, given in memory of Betty by her family, to a high school senior planning on attending college for fine arts, was awarded to Stephanie Mills (East Jordan).
The Huckle scholarship of $500.00, given by JRAC to a junior or senior based on the merit of the work submitted was awarded to Andrea Postma (East Jordan High School). The honorable mention awards of $50.00 each went to Joseph Haney (East Jordan), Jeff Creica (Bellaire), Wesley Eggebrecht (Ellsworth), and Dorian Vilify (East Jordan).
All awards were at the discretion of the juror who based the decision on creativity, originality and craftsmanship. Five works of art were required in any medium. The juror was Gail Lambert, Visual Art Director, Crooked Tree Art Center. The top winners' names will be added to the Memorial Scholarship plaques displayed permanently at the Arts Council.
Other participants are: Mary Chaffee (Concord, Boyne); Skylar MacNaughton (Boyne City); Hope Blanshan (Concord, Boyne); Andrea Earie (Ellsworth); Alice neer (Ellsworth); Michelle Hizelberger (Ellsworth); Pdero Oviedo (Ellsworth); Rebekah Grutsch (East Jordan); Tina Kirby (East Jordan); and Krista Nichols (East Jordan).
The exhibit runs until May 30th at the Jordan River Art Center, 301 Main St., East Jordan. The center will be open daily from 1-4 pm. For other times or for further information, call the chairperson, Sara Vrondran, 231-536-0918 or the Art Center, 231-536-3385.
