An exhibit, “FROM PENCIL TO PIXEL, Animation and Illustration,” is scheduled January 16 through February 25 at the Jordan River Art Center, 301 Main St. East Jordan. The exhibit will demonstrate how illustration is used to enhance a story and is also used to convey movement. The exhibit will consist of original illustrations for books, films, and videos: including early examples of the animators art. Puppets that are used in both animation and illustrations will also be on exhibition.

[Photo ID: Jim Middlton, will speak on the history of animation for the Exhibit Opening, 2:30 PM Sunday Jan 16]

Featured will be original book illustrations and books from the Mazza Museum collection, the only teaching gallery in the world specializing in the art of children’s picture books, University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio. Also original illustrations and animation films from Michigan artists Betty Beeby, Jan and Gary Bower, Ken Scott, Mary Hraimic Hoffman, Jim Middleton, David Baker, Kathy Jo Wargin, Wendy and Brian Froud, Heidi Marshall, Chris Allen-Wickier, Erin Anderson, Deanna Morse, Tim Smith, and Mary Fuscaldo.

This exhibit with workshops and in school programs focuses on the school age student. School groups will be invited to attend the exhibit with a hands on story/ illustration experience provided by trained docents. Artist, weiters and art patrons, especially parents, can also benefit from this event. It is the goal to reach all schools in the JRAC service area, with workshops either in the schools or at the Art Center.

For the opening, January 16, 2:30 PM, Jim Middleton, animation instructor for Kellogg Community College, will present a lively and entertaining discussion of the history of animation and illustration using video and film clips.
