The Jordan River Arts Council is pleased to announce the Scholarship competition for 2008.
Three awards plus three honorable mentions will be awarded.
The Betty Osborne Scholarship of $1,500. given in her memory, is awarded
to a High School Senior upon receipt of their first semester grades at a
College of Fine Art.
The Pearl in Hand Scholarship of $1,000, given by the artist Betty Beeby,
awarded to a High School Senior, upon receipt of their first semester grades at a
College of Fine Art
The Huckle Award of $750. is awarded to a Junior or Senior based on the
merit of the work submitted.
Up to three $100.00 Honorable Mention prizes will be awarded.
All awards will be at the discretion of the juror, and you must be present in order to receive a scholarship. Students who are awarded a Scholarship will be added to plaques displayed permanently at the Arts Council. The Osborne and Pearl in Hand Scholarship checks will be mailed directly towards the student’s school of choice, upon receiving their first semester grades. The Huckle scholarship and honorable mention awards will be the only monetary awards distributed directly to the student to be used at their discretion.
Those students choosing to apply for the “The Pearl in Hand” Art Scholarship will be contacted by the Arts Council to line up a date to meet with Betty Beeby to review your work. We will be calling students interested in this scholarship to line up individual meetings with Betty Beebe during the week of May 12th. There are also other requirements for this specific scholarship, please review the application carefully and call the Arts Council with further questions.
To apply for a scholarship, students must complete the application or apply on-line by Friday, April 11, 2008. If you are mailing your application please send it to the above address: Attention: Sara Vrondran.
A minimum of three (3), but not more than five (5) works of art in your desired medium may be entered. All work must be dropped off at the Art Center, address above, between 5 and 6p.m. on Thursday May 8th, or Friday May 9th, 2008. Size is not limited, but weight and portability should be considered. All works should be ready for exhibition and JRAC will not be responsible for any damages. All work must be original. No derivatives (a copy of another work) will be accepted. Judging will be based on creativity, originality, and craftsmanship. The enclosed labels should be affixed to each work as indicated and accompanied by the entry inventory, also enclosed.
All works will be exhibited at the Jordan River Art Center May 18th through June 6th. An opening reception will be from 1-4 pm; Sunday May 18 with awards announced and presented at 2:00 pm.
Student presence at the Awards Ceremony is necessary in order to receive a scholarship. Those who have received awards will be invited to exhibit one work in the Annual Artist Invitation Exhibition which opens June 28, 2008. The Betty Osborne, and The Pearl in Hand winner will be encouraged to exhibit their advanced College work in the 2009 Scholarship show. All artwork will
need to be picked up after the show between 5 and 6pm on Thursday June 12th and Friday June 13th Work left at the arts council after this date will not be the responsibility of Jordan River Arts Council.
